Newly signed from Accrington Stanley, it is perhaps no wonder why Bobby Grant is looking forward to making his home debut against Sheffield Wednesday tommorow.

The 19 year old front man, who can also play down the left, whilst happy at his own form: has admitted that the team as a whole have to up their game if they wish to continue their 100% pre-season record against Sheffield Wednesday, York & Huddersfield.

He admitted to the Iron Player;

‘The manager has told us that if we give the ball away as easily as we did against Winterton then we will concede goals’.

Given the Iron’s experiences at the back last season, this is very much the case: and you would hope that with the message having clearly been drilled into them so early: that the squad will have learnt from the lessons of last season.

He went on to say;

‘We need to get our touches sorted, pass the ball properly and get another good result under out belts’.

‘Results breed confidence. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a friendly or not. It’s a results business and the lads gain confidence’.

And given the Iron’s tendency for the Iron to have been very inconsistent, either going on spells unbeaten or defeated: you will hope no doubt that this is another lesson which they hope to learn and build from.

Despite the concerns about results breeding confidence and the requirement to up their performances, the Liverpudlian hitman did go on to say that he was really enjoying his time in North Lincolnshire following his jump from League Two.

‘I’m settling in great. The lads are fantastic and the training is great’.

‘I’m sure the way the manager wants us to play will suit the team, and me personally’.

The above statement seems to confirm that Adkins is refusing to give up the attacking style of football that has earnt the Iron many plaudits: but arguably cost the team goals.

And you can also hope that the team spirit can remain as high as Bobby indicates and that the new signings will gel quickly and be the real boost that the Iron need to avoid relegation once more.
