Stephen Dawson knows Chelsea will, of course, be the favourites when it comes to the FA Cup third round tie on Sunday but this is more than ‘a day out’ for him and the remainder of the squad.

The fans will travel in hope of causing an upset but (as much as a win isn’t going to be expected as such) most will also do this not ‘accepting’ defeat.

If the squad, as was the case against Wigan in the League 1 draw with them at the weekend, give a good account of themselves Dawson told the Official Website anything is possible with him basically saying the Scunthorpe aren’t travelling to make up the numbers.

‘We’re drilling in what the manager wants from us, and we’re going there to give a really good account of ourselves. We’re not going just for a day out. On Saturday, I thought it was a really good, end-to-end game. We could have nicked it at the end, but it’s out to win this weekend, and it’s eleven versus eleven. We’ve got to go believing we can do something in the game. The manager’s installing a game plan, we’re working all week and hopefully we can do the club proud, ourselves and the fans. We’ve sold out our allocation, which is brilliant to see.’

3,000 fans are travelling to Stamford Bridge, which he added he knows would have cost the fans ‘a lot of money’, which he knows first hand what it costs having ‘been down there’ and seen the prices, so a performance for them is wanted as much as anything.

Injury had seen Dawson sidelined for most of the season so far with him finishing by saying he was ‘over the moon’ to be back with him hopeful of playing his part in helping Scunthorpe ‘kick on.’

‘I’m just over the moon to be back. The Wigan game has put to bed a lot of the demons I had in my head to bed at the start of the season. For me especially, and the team as well, a win and two draws. It’s a couple of points in the right direction and we’ll hopefully kick on up the league table now.’
