Brian Laws has said that the door is not closed on Jimmy Ryan, he has been encouraged to see what his options are.

The 24 year old was named as one of the players the club would offer a new contract to when Scunthorpe announced their retained list, but Laws explained that he’d spoke to the player and told him to see what deals would be out there for him.

Speaking to the Scunthorpe Telegraph Laws said.

‘What I’ve said to Jimmy is that while the door is not shut, I’d like him to go out there and see what the best deal is he can get. If there’s nothing there, he can come back to us. If there is, he can still come back to us and say what it is and then we’ve got a decision to make. The money isn’t available for him at this moment, but in a few weeks’ time, if nerves are jangling and there’s still nothing on offer, we might be able to do something for him.’

Last season the midfielder made 49 appearances and was the Telegraph’s Player of the Year which was a good response following his injury plagued first season.

Laws acknowledges that this isn’t the news fans would have wanted to hear as he knows it means most likely we will lose the player, but he says it might be an unfortunately needed sacrifice for the club long term.

Ideally we will be able to sort out a deal for the player.
