Scunthorpe United are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by goalkeeper Matt Gilks in the one nil victory over Oxford United at the weekend at Glanford Park was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Gilks was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Scunthorpe secured a first victory of the Sky Bet League One season, ending Oxford United`s perfect start in the process. Gilks was in inspired form, producing a string of fine saves to keep out the U`s in the 1-0 win at Glanford Park.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Gilks for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.

Full Team:

Matt Gilks (Scunthorpe United), Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United), Liam Cooper (Leeds United), Tom Miller (Carlisle United), Ricky Holmes (Charlton Athletic), Conor Hourihane (Aston Villa), Sean Longstaff (Blackpool), Billy Bodin (Bristol Rovers), Jack Marriott (Peterborough United), Devante Cole (Fleetwood Town), David Nugent (Derby County).

Manager – Michael Flynn (Newport County).
