Alan Knill has not held back with his wielding of the axe, with no fewer than 10 players given their Scunthorpe marching orders.

Cliff Byrne, Garry Thompson and Jordan Robertson join Josh Lillis, Andrew Wright, Eddie Nolan, Ashley Palmer, Michael O’Connor, Sam Togwell and Aron Wint in being informed that they will not be offered new contracts.

Knill, as he told the official website, found this difficult to do and thanked the departing players: ‘it was a very, very difficult day. I would like to place on record my thanks to the players for all their hard work since I came to the club and wish them all the best for the future.’

The only out of contract player to stay at Glanford Park is Bobby Grant, the extra year option on his contract has been taken up.
