Walsall 1-4 Scunthorpe

Brian Laws’ impact as returning Scunthorpe manager was (FA Cup side) instant with him guiding The Iron to a first win in nine at Walsall on Tuesday night.

First half strikes for Niall Canavan (13) and Mark Duffy (30) had Scunthorpe in control inside half an hour, with these goals enough to send the visitors into the break two-nil up. They were a man down though when David Prutton was sent off a minute before the break.

Being reduced to 10-men didn’t prevent Canavan (50) from extending their lead shortly after the break with Leon Clarke (75) adding a fourth with time running out to secure the points.

A late Will Grigg (90+2) strike in injury-time was nothing more than a consolation for Walsall with The Iron cruising to a 4-1 win.
