Karl Hawley has finally been tied down to a new contract, so the risk of Scunthorpe losing the striker before the season is out has passed.

The 31-year-old arrived on a short-term contract in September but this expired at the weekend.

On going talks in recent weeks have finally ended with the former Carlisle and Notts County striker, who is the top goalscorer of The Iron for players still at the club, signing on until the summer.

This is boost to Scunthorpe’s relegation fears, which can only be aided by the fact he is staying.
