Brian Laws has spoken of the signing of Andy Dawson after he was announced as our new left back to become player/coach at the end of last month.

Speaking to the Official Site the manager said.

‘We’re delighted to sign Andy. I think he’s a quality player who has all the ingredients of what we’re looking for in terms of personality. The dressing room will benefit from his character no doubt, and he possesses some real quality on the pitch. We have a real all rounder there for us.’

As part of the deal it will also see him move into coaching as that’s the direction he wants to go in for his future.

Laws also says he sees Dawson as having the kind of impact on the training ground and the dressing room as Peter Beagrie used to, motivating people and being somebody that the younger elements of the team can lean on and learn from.

Laws also admitted that the downside to Dawson coming in, is that the club won’t be able to offer out of contract Tom Newey a new deal, conceding that if finances were better he was basically guaranteed to get a new deal, so all he can do is wish him the very best for the future and thank him for efforts since joining the club.
