Defender Tom Newey has said against Bury we simply weren’t good enough again, and it’s basically the story of Scunthorpe’s season.

Speaking to the Official Site after the loss sees us sit five points clear of safety, the player said after the game.

‘It was bitterly disappointing, I thought that in the first half we were good value for our 1-0 lead. Second half, they’ve scored a good free kick, and we’ve been poor since that went in. We’d spoken at half time of coming out and putting the game to bed, but it’s been the story of our season.’

Newey agrees that our inability to kill teams off when we are dominating has cost us way too many points this season and unless things change rapidly it will have cost us our League One status.

He also knows the team just aren’t responding well enough when teams draw level with us or take the lead but nobody knows why that keeps happening.
