Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Manager of the Month for October.

Only an unlucky defeat at leaders Gillingham prevented him from guiding Scunthorpe through a perfect month.

Five wins from six games with a 13-5 goal differential demonstrated his ability to balance attacking play with pragmatism.

Robins said: “It’s pleasing to have won the award. It is testament to the players’ performances and the support of the chairman, directors and staff. The fans have been excellent too.‬‬

“We picked up a couple of decent results at the start of the month and have just carried on in the same vein. We`re in a reasonable position now, where we can focus and really kick on. We have to carry on moving forward together.”

George Burley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel.

He said: “Mark has had a great month with Scunthorpe, gaining 15 points and only losing out to promotion challengers Gillingham.

“He is imposing his style of football which he has done in all his managerial jobs. His team are looking serious Play-Off contenders this season.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Robins overcame a really tough August and September to kick Scunthorpe’s season into life in October.

“Paddy Madden and Gary McSheffrey’s contributions have been invaluable, and Robins will be looking up the table rather than over his shoulder for the rest of 2015.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Scunthorpe fans had an amazing month, seeing their side pick up five wins out of six in October – a record better than any other side in League 1.

“This has seen them move up the table to tenth, only four points off the Play-Off places, despite beginning the month in the relegation zone.

“Robins will be pleased with the performances of Paddy Madden and Gary McSheffrey, contributing 8 goals between them over the last 6 games.

“Scunthorpe were available as short as 5/2 before the season to finish in the top 6, and are now 5/1 to achieve at least a Play-Off place this season.”
