With the high that was the effort and application against Chelsea in the FA Cup in our last game, Scunthorpe came back down to earth with a heavy defeat to Blackpool at the weekend.

Making the trip to Bloomfield Road in what you would’ve thought was good spirits following the performance we put in against the reigning Premier League Champions, the side was basically handed it’s backside back on a plate with a heavy five nil defeat and manager Mark Robins was fuming at the full time whistle.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, Robins’ frustration and disappointment was on show for all to see as he labelled the performance ‘poor and unacceptable’.

‘Abject, poor, angry, disappointed and unacceptable – those are the words you can associate with that performance. It was really poor and there isn`t anything positive we can take from the game. I think we`ve got to give credit to Blackpool because they`ve scored five goals but they`ll be the easiest five goals they`ll score against any team. From my point of view, it was very disappointing and one of the most un-Scunthorpe like performances I`ve ever seen. I take whole responsibility. It was my performance, my team and the performance has been horrendous. They`ve bullied us, they`ve caused us problems and we`ve allowed it to happen which is the most disappointing thing.’

Having hailed the earlier Chelsea showing as one being full of heart, endeavour and grit and determination, Robins knows it was chalk and cheese as regular performances like that from the players would see them lucky to get a game in the Sunday League set up.

‘It`s unacceptable. We spoke about moving forward after the game last week and all the plaudits we took in defeat but we didn`t do that which is just not good enough. We`re a decent side with decent players but we can`t keep saying that. We`ve got to start proving it and the only way you can do that is by working as hard as your opponent which we just didn`t do. I`m not taking anything positive – I wouldn`t want to insult the supporters. The players need to start getting it right because we were very poor.’
