Scunthorpe’s League 1 season continued with a good win against Coventry at Glanford Park on Saturday.

Even as the home side Scunthorpe might not have been the favourites going into the game but it was the Iron that did secure all three-points with a one-nil win at the weekend.

A first win in six-matches for Scunthorpe was secured by a late Madden (79) goal to see Coventry, who had started the day in second, drop to fourth after a second successive away defeat for the Sky Blues.

These were the match highlights.

The other results at the weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 12th September
Barnsley 4-1 Swindon
Burton 1-0 Rochdale
Chesterfield 3-3 Colchester
Crewe 1-3 Millwall
Fleetwood 1-1 Bradford
Gillingham 2-1 Blackpool
Oldham 1-5 Peterborough
Port Vale 3-2 Wigan
Scunthorpe 1-0 Coventry
Sheff Utd 1-3 Bury
Southend 0-1 Shrewsbury
Walsall 2-0 Doncaster

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Barnsley, Peterborough and Bury!

Barnsley, having lost the previous two in League 1, reacted to falling behind to Swindon, who had been unbeaten, by storming back to win at Oakwell in the end. A win would have been a good result as it was but to win four-one makes it an even better result.

Having sacked boss Robertson before the game Peterborough, as so often happens, reacted to thrash Oldham five-one at Boundary Park….a result that cost Oldham boss Kelly his job with him sacked after the defeat!

The result of the weekend, which could be argued I suppose, has to be the win Bury had at Bramall Lane against the form side in League 1 Sheffield United. The win was made all the more impressive with this coming as the Shakers as the visitors to the Blades.

Who was the Scunthorpe Man of the Match in this game? That’s what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote.

Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most in this one-nil win?
