Iron manager Ian Baraclough has confirmed that star midfielder Josh Wright has rocked the club’s foundations and has handed in a transfer request.

This followed the Tower Hamlets born ex-Charlton playmaker having turned down the new contract offered to him by the Iron.

However, it is though that Scunthorpe United have yet to receive any offer for the 21-year-old.

Confirming the rumour to the press, Iron gaffer Ian Baraclough said;

“He came to speak to me about it. ‘He was offered a new deal and expressed his wish to move on and said he wasn’t interested in signing a new deal

“He’s not been able to settle very well in the area, which is something I was unaware of, and he feels it will be best for him to move on – whether it’s in this transfer window or at the end of the season.”

“Josh is a person who has given 100 % at all times and it will be a sad loss to lose him because I think he’s gone and progressed well at this club.”

“He’s enjoyed his time here but he told me he hasn’t been able to settle and he feels as though he needs to move on. That’s unfortunate but it’s something we’ll have to deal with.”

Yes, it’s most definitely something the Iron will have to contend with: and if he does indeed leave in January, then he will be a very sore loss and someone the Iron will have to replace.

So then, a bad day on the strengthening transfer front for Iron fans gets worse. Just marvellous…

Come on Josh – the North’s not that bad….

Will the Iron be able to keep hold of Josh? If not, will they get much for him? Who could the Iron replace him with? Will he be a loss? Is geography the real motivation for his transfer request?
