Scunthorpe’s League 1 season continued, with them no up and running after a win against Crewe at Glanford Park on Saturday.

A goal in each half from Madden made the difference as Scunthorpe ran out two-nil winners after League 1 and League Cup defeats to start the season.

Madden (10) had Scunthorpe ahead when he headed home a Hopper cross with the points secured by the Iron when Madden (65) added his second at the midway point of the second half.

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 15th August
Barnsley 1-0 Burton Alb
Blackpool 0-2 Rochdale
Bradford 1-1 Shrewsbury
Bury 2-2 Swindon
Millwall 0-4 Coventry
Oldham 1-0 Fleetwood
Peterboro 2-1 Colchester
Port Vale 1-1 Gillingham
Scunthorpe 2-0 Crewe
Sheff Utd 2-0 Chesterfld
Southend 0-2 Walsall

Sunday 16th August
Wigan 0-0 Doncaster

Looking at these results the stand out one was definitely the Coventry win at Millwall, with Blackpool’s misery continuing with Rochdale beating them at Bloomfield Road.

Coventry, who have started the season well, look to have a real goalscorer on their hands with Newcastle teenage loanee striker Armstrong taking his tally up to four-goals for the club in the opening week included two at the Den on Saturday in this four-nil win for the Sky Blues.

All of that after Millwall missed an early penalty chance to take the lead!

Blackpool, even at this stage, look likely to be a stone that continues to sink following Premier League relegation a few years back and Championship relegation last season, just five-years ago they topped the Premier League however it’s looking ominous that a place in League 2 next season already awaits them….

Scunthorpe are back in action this midweek with another League 1 game against second bottom, at this stage, and former Premier League and Championship side Wigan at the DW Stadium on Wednesday.
