Scunthorpe United have completed the signing of ex-Morecambe & Southport wideman Mark Duffy for an undisclosed fee.

The Scouse midfielder has signed a two and a half year deal: with the option for the Iron to extend the deal a further year if they desite

The ex-Liverpool trainee will sport the No. 31 shirt for the Iron and is in the squad for Saturday’s televised home clash against Eddie Howe’s Burnley.

In both league and cup, he made 75 appearances for the Shrimpers, scoring 7 goals in the process

The 25-year-old told The Iron Player: “I’m really over the moon, I can’t believe it’s happening. I just want to get out there and meet all the lads and play football.”

“I can’t wait to try and prove myself in the Championship, I’ve been in League Two for a year and a half and its obvious that this is going to be a massive step up.”

“I was at Liverpool when I was a kid but got released. I ended up at Prescott Cables before linking up with Southport in the Conference.”

“Then Morecambe came in and gave me the chance to play professional {and} I was at Morecambe for about a year and a half and there was a little bit of interest and now I’m here.”

“It’s all a bit of a whirlwind to be honest. I’m an out and out winger, like to get the ball down and get one on one with the defender.”

“My job is to get balls in the box for the strikers to hopefully score. There’s a few players that I already know here which will help me settle.”

“I knew Garry Thompson from his time at Morecambe and I’ve got to know Chris Dagnall and Bobby Grant from living in Liverpool.”

“It’s a bit intimidating going into a dressing room full of big players so it’s nice to know people.”

Gutted that he’s gone but as long as he’s given a bit of time to settle he will be a good signing for you

Yes, it’s nice to see them having a few more bodies come in the building.

He should definitely get time to settle, although I suspect he might be starting on Saturday – so he still needs to produce the goods, but I am hopeful he definitely can!

Hows Thommo getting on? Any chance we could have him back?!
